Found this in an article today:

A Hasidic tale describes a Rabbi who told people that if they studied the Torah it would put Scripture on their hearts. When someone asked him why he always used the word "on" instead of "in" he said, "Only God can put Scripture inside. But reading sacred text can put it on your hearts, and when your hearts break the holy words will fall inside."¹

This is the third post in a series dealing with Hearing God's Voice in our lives. In this post I explore how the Bible helps us hear from God.

For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
- Hebrews 4:12 -

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.
- 2 Timothy 3:16 -

We often hear the story of Samuel and wonder why we aren't able to hear God's voice in the same way. (1 Samuel 3) The primary difference for us today is that we have 66 books bound within one cover from which God can speak to our lives. God wants to use His Word in our lives, it all comes down to whether we will let him.

Hearing God's Voice - Pt 2 - His Creation

Yesterday I outlined quite basically the importance of being able to hear God's voice. If you were not convinced, hang in there, I hope that in learning more about it that you will feel a desire to understand it better.

The first area that I believe that God has provided for us to hear from Him is nature.

God's Voice - His Creation

So they went away by themselves in a boat to a solitary place.
- Mark 6:32 -

One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God.
- Luke 6:12 -

Too often our homes and workplaces etc are so full of distractions that we don't have the space to hear God. God wants to speak to us but we have our iPod in our ears, the television blaring and MSN flashing. Sometimes it is best to withdraw away, take a media fast and focus on our Saviour. Who knows, you may notice something special that God created for you.

The voice of the LORD is over the waters;
the God of glory thunders,
the LORD thunders over the mighty waters.

The voice of the LORD is powerful;
the voice of the LORD is majestic.

The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars;
the LORD breaks in
pieces the cedars of Lebanon

Hearing God's Voice - Pt 1

Have you ever heard God's voice?
Has He ever told you He loves you?

Hearing the voice of God should be an ordinary part of the Christian experience. Jesus said:

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me
- John 10:27 -

Jesus didn't say His sheep read His words, He said they hear Him. Hearing God's voice is critical for the end time church. In the first couple of chapters of Revelation, God repeatedly asserts through John:

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.
- Revelation 2:7a -
